Karen Ricardo: Government has gone back 20 years with the blackouts

Karen Ricardo: Gobierno ha retrocedido 20 años con los apagones

The presidential candidate for Dominican Liberation PartyKaren Ricardo, pointed out that the Government has gone back 20 years with the blackout crisis, putting the population to suffer an evil that was thought to have been overcome.

For the PLD leader, this is a reflection of the need for the PLD to govern again in 2024, to redirect the country along the paths of progress and social welfare.

He said that in the midst of a heat wave, the different sectors of the capital suffer long hours of blackouts, to which is added a high billing that has become almost unaffordable for the vast majority of Dominicans.

“Dominicans have seen a drastic increase in their electricity bill, which does not correspond to the service they receive, overwhelmingly reducing their quality of life. This implies that a Dominican who earns a minimum wage must take at least 50% to pay the electricity bill,” Ricardo said.

He recalled that in the PLD governments large investments were made in the electricity sector, to ward off a problem that Dominicans never saw resolved, but that in just two years has gone back to the 90s.

He understands that for a government to be effective, it must guarantee the population at least access to the main basic services, which the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has not done more than two years after assuming power.

He also cited the high cost of the family basket, where not even the average-income Dominican can go to a supermarket without fear, because the main products of the basic basket register daily increases.

Only with the return of the PLD to power will Dominicans have a guarantee of being able to live in a country with economic stability and that they can take to the streets and bring bread to their homes without fear.”indicated the also former deputy for that political organization, after noting that she will assume power in 2024 with the firm conviction of redirecting the country along the path of progress.
