Santo Domingo will host the XII Annual Conference of Mining Ministries of the Americas (CAMMA)which will take place from October 17 to 20, with the purpose of defining policies that position mining as the axis of social and economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
the minister of Energy and Mines, engineer Antonio Almontereleased the information during a meeting in which he emphasized that the time has come to recognize the important contribution of mining to the sustainable development of the economies of the region.
The international conclave brings together ministers, experts and representatives of international organizations specialized in the management of the development of responsible mining and of great economic and social impact.

In this forum, the most important in the mining sector in the region, 24 countries will participate and will analyze various lines of action, including: expanding regional collaboration to share information and experiences among the mining ministries of the Americas in order to increase the sustainability of mining and its contribution to Objectives of Sustainable Development.
“We aspire to contribute to mitigating climate change, reducing emissions from the mining sector, even taking into account the role of critical or strategic minerals and metals for the energy transition and the compliance with the Paris Agreement”, said Minister Almonte at the activity, which took place in the auditorium of the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.
He praised the practical importance for the ministries and their heads of developing the exchange of experiences and ways of mutual cooperation between the countries.
During the press conference, Minister Almonte announced the appointment of Mr. Miguel Peña, mining advisor of the Executive Power and director of Mining Environmental Remediationas executive secretary of the CAMMA of the Dominican Republic.
The activity was attended by the Vice Minister of Mines, Miguel Díaz; the director of Environmental Remediation and mining advisor to the Executive Branch, Miguel Peña; the general director of Mining, Rolando Muñoz, the director of Social Management of the MEM, Marcelino Mordán and entrepreneurs and leaders of the Mining and Oil Chamber of the Dominican Republic (CAMIPE).
