The Seremi de Salud de la Región Metropolitana confirmed the first case of the Ómicron variant of Covid-19 in the capital. As indicated by the health authority, it corresponds to a 65-year-old patient who is hospitalized in a healthcare center in the region.
“Through the epidemiological investigation, the health authority has defined 5 close contacts of the case, those who have already completed quarantine at home,” they detailed.
Seremi added that “the investigation is ongoing and to date no epidemiological link with travelers has been identified.”
As a preventive measure, the authority is actively searching for cases in a family group and in their workplaces, with the aim of protecting the health of the population.
This Sunday the Ministry of Health reported 1,605 new cases of Covid-19, with a positivity of 2.35% in the last 24 hours at the national level, with 64,992 examinations, PCR and antigen tests. In addition, it confirmed that the daily positivity in the Metropolitan Region is 1% and eight regions register a positivity equal to or less than 2%.
