The President of the Republic vetoed an electromobility law that has generated a series of reactions. Some that really do not have any severe explanation from the executive, is the fact that this can affect the tax revenue of the treasury. Actually that is a secondary issue, because that leads us to think that the only reason we continue to use fossil fuel is because it generates income for the public coffers in the taxes that are added every time we fill the cars with fuel, but not a country that has an overabundance of hydropower that we have been financing the development of Brazil for 50 years.
Not using having the availability of vehicles and a wide range of even buses powered by electricity, that really is something impossible to justify. What Paraguay should have is a tremendous policy promoting the massive use of hydropower, all that this means for us in terms of environmental quality that economic resources do not have to go to hydrocarbon exporters and the simple fact that we are at their expense, it is already an extraordinary step.
Seeking independence, autonomy, sovereignty in energy matters, is the desire of any country in the world and it is even more so in these times when the prices of oil derivatives have generated a collapse of the economy at a global level. Paraguay cannot continue to tail this and not understand where our present is and where our future is.
We must make massive use of our hydropower, 42% of the 50% that corresponds to us in Itaipu we have been giving away to Brazilians for 50 years at the price of generation, and we have developed the industries in São Paulo and other locations. We are getting poorer and dumber.
