Geneva. The WHO emergency committee on monkeypox will meet on Thursday next week to determine the measures to be taken against the current outbreak of the disease, the agency announced yesterday in a statement.
The committee must rule on the seriousness of the resurgence of monkeypox cases and on its classification as a “public health emergency of international scope”, the highest level of alert of the organization.
It will meet for the second time after the resurgence of this disease at the international level, after having ruled out raising the alert level at its previous meeting on June 23.
The number of confirmed cases worldwide has risen sharply since then, topping 10,000 in more than 60 countries.
