Mayor will seek that Samuel García respect ejido water

Demand for services and transportation puts pressure on municipalities in the Monterrey metropolitan area

Monterey, NL. After the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Garcia Sepulveda uploaded a video to his social networks in which he mentioned that he found water for Monterrey and the metropolitan area in the canyon of the ejido Nuncio, municipality of Arteaga, Coahuila (adjacent to the municipality of Rayones, Nuevo León), Mayor Ramiro Durán commented to a local television station that the water is for the communities and is primarily for agricultural use, so they will appeal to the law so that it is not taken away.

These days it has rained a lot in that area of the Sierra de Arteaga and natural runoff tends to reach the ejido of Las Trancas, in Rayones, Nuevo León.

“Those runoffs look like this thanks to the fact that it has rained a lot in that area, many people know the El Salto waterfall that is in the ejido, at this moment it carries a significant amount of water, but they are natural sources and descents that people known as water eyes, before they were known as norias”.

“This water that passes through this stream is for agricultural use, in that region they are dedicated to rainfed crops, they have avocado and walnut orchards, and they use the water for irrigation, it is used until they reach Las Trancas, but the water is minimal”.

“Where the governor recorded this video, it is the territory of Arteaga, there the important thing is that they are not going to harm the residents of our municipality, if the runoff reaches Las Trancas, they will decide if they use it for the agricultural sector or if they want it. take somewhere else.”

He stated that they will be subject to the applicable legislation on the matter, since article 121 states that when the water passes through two or three properties, the use belongs to the nation, but if it passes through more than three properties, the use belongs to the state.

“In this case, as this water passes through the river, it is the natural use for irrigation, if the water levels drop, fewer cubic meters will arrive, what is in Arteaga is for agricultural irrigation; (I ask you) not to take the water away from us,” stressed Mayor Ramiro Durán.

He reiterated that the Nuncio ejido includes 2,000 hectares where there are many water sources, but not to take it to a city where millions of people live.
