The relatives of political prisoner José Antonio Peraza, convicted of crimes considered “treason against the country”, expressed this Friday, July 15, their fear for his life because he is suffering from “obvious” physical deterioration.

The agency also warned that political prisoners sloth, Maria Esperanza Sanchez Y Pedro Vasquez; These were three cases that illustrated the physical and mental wear and tear to which the regime subjects prisoners of conscience, depriving them of timely and specialized medical care, while applying a secrecy policy that includes not informing relatives when they become ill.

“The lack of timely medical care has led, on the one hand, to an increase in hospitalization cases in the population of prisoners and political prisoners, as well as the appearance and worsening of chronic diseases,” warned the Mechanism for the Recognition of Prisoners. A source close to Peraza’s family also said then that the political scientist suffers from malnutrition, skin problems and recurrent kidney infection. Almost a year after his arrest —on July 26, 2021—, the man who entered prison without any ailment or disease, has multiple health problems.

Relatives of political prisoners assure that the food they are given in prison does not guarantee enough nutrients for their body and the conditions are “unhealthy”.
