Regime ratifies appointments of members of its board of directors in the BCN

The regime of Daniel Ortega ratified the positions within the council of the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) naming Francisco José Quiñones, Ricardo Coronel Kautz and German Manolo Miranda as the new proprietary members of the BCN board of directors, according to the presidential decrees published in La Gazette.

Through presidential decrees 59-2022, 114-2022 and 54-2022, he resolved to formalize the occupation of his positions within the financial entity that enters into force as of its publication. Coronel Kautz replaced Helio César Montenegro Díaz as one of the proprietary members within the BCN.

Ricardo Coronel is the twin brother of Manuel Coronel Kautz, president of the Interoceanic Canal Authority, former vice chancellor and president of the board of directors of the Nicaraguan Petroleum Company (Petronic). The Colonel Kinloch nephews also hold important positions in the Ortega regime in the Ministry of the Interior (Migob), the Foreign Ministry and other state entities.

The new member of the BCN Board of Directors is the son of the poet José Coronel Urtecho, a poet, translator, essayist, critic, speaker, playwright, diplomat, historian and founder of the Nicaraguan Vanguard literary movement, along with Joaquín Pasos and Pablo Antonio Cuadra.

Colonel Kautz will be in office until June 10, 2026 to complete the term of Helio Montenegro, appointed in June 2021 and removed a few months later. On April 4 of this year, the dictator ordered the appointment of “comrade Tirso Celedón Lacayo, to replace comrade Helio César Montenegro Díaz,” but he was removed to make way for Ricardo Coronel Kautz.

For his part, Quiñónez Murphy was appointed director of the BCN since March 31, but was installed in the position as of April 6, 2022 after the publication in La Gaceta and was ratified until this Friday. Quiñónez was vice president of Bancorp since its foundation, on April 6, 2015.

Germán Manolo Miranda is the other recent director of the BCN who worked at Bancorp, according to public records he served as business manager of the financial institution since its foundation.
