Luiz de Orleans e Bragança died today (15), in São Paulo, at the age of 84. He is a descendant of the royal family that ruled Brazil under the monarchic system until 1889, when the Republic was proclaimed. Bragança was the son of Pedro Henrique de Orleans e Bragança and Maria da Baviera and was born on June 6, 1938, in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, France.
Since the death of his father, in 1981, he became head of the Imperial House of Brazil, a non-governmental organization that defends the return to the monarchy. For the group, he is the “legitimate dynastic successor of his greatest, the emperors Dom Pedro I and Dom Pedro II and Princess Dona Isabel”, as a note that communicates his death.
The Imperial House of Brazil will now be headed by Luiz’s brother, Bertrand de Orleans and Bragança. The entity defends the “restoration of the Monarchy in the general lines of the Constitution of March 25, 1824, naturally making the necessary adaptations to the current Brazilian reality”.
The wake of Luiz de Orleans e Bragança will be at the headquarters of the Plínio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute, on Rua Maranhão, in the Higienópolis neighborhood, on July 16 and 17. Burial will be on the 18th at Consolação Cemetery, at 1 pm.
