Madrid Spain.- The young Cuban Andy Agüero Barrios died this Thursday after hours in the Rafael Valdés polyclinic in Havana waiting for an ambulance to take him to a hospital.
His mother, Maritza Barrios, had explained in Facebook that his son, blind and autistic, needed a transfusion, since he had 6.3 hemoglobin.
“The doctor is tired of calling everywhere and a damn ambulance doesn’t show up. One came a moment ago (an ambulance) with a case and did not want to take it away, ”the lady denounced.
“My son is going to die. I have no way to take it on my own. (…) Please, I need urgent help, an ambulance”, she asked desperately.
Hours later Maritza Barrios confirmed the unfortunate news of the death of his son.
The publication soon had thousands of comments, expressing solidarity with this woman and denouncing the health system and the Cuban government.
“How long do Cuban mothers have to continue suffering because of that dictatorship? It is a very strong pain. Díaz-Canel with the pain of a mother is not played. Down with the dictatorship. It is very sad what is happening in Cuba because of this mismanagement,” said Katia Martín.
While Yenis N. Núñez considered: “Until Cuban mothers go out into the streets, things like this will continue to happen: Their children are killed by hunger, need and they don’t react.”
Unfortunate events like this are frequently reported through social networks. Last year, CubaNet spoke with Edimir Rodríguez Martínez, the father of a young pregnant woman who died due to the lack of an ambulance.
Elianne Rodríguez was 39.4 weeks pregnant when she suffered a fall in the maternity home where she was admitted. According to her testimonies that she picked up her own father, “the group of pregnant women together with the auxiliary nurse and a group of cooks picked her up and moved her to her bed.”
“They quickly went to the SIUM (Integrated Emergency Medical System) point asking for help for my girl and the companion who was in front told them in a grotesque tone ‘Where did I get it?’ She argued that at that time there was no ambulance to provide the service, there were only four parked that had a technical problem.
