The Senate of the Republic approved today in second reading the project of Domain Forfeiture Law after several debates for and against.
The piece featured favorable vote of 20 of the 28 senators present. Among the opposing vote is the of the official senator for La Romana, Iván Silva.
Likewise, they voted for the non-approval of the law, the senators present in the hemicycle of the opposition parties PLD and People’s Force.
Before the vote, the senators read the 111 articles containing the controversial bill.

The project of Domain Forfeiture Law happens now to be known in the Chamber of Deputies.
This law has as its main objective the recovery of assets that come directly or indirectly from some type of illicit act within Dominican territory or abroad.
It should be noted that the project Domain Forfeiture Law was about a decade old National Congressand was recently debated by a Bicameral Commission which resulted in the approval two readings inside the upper chamber.
In the same order, within the Bicameral Commission Several initiatives were presented by the senators Ivan Lorenzo; Felix Baptist; Antonio Taveras; Milciades Franjul and José del Castillo Saviñón.

The Domain Forfeiture Law It is a legal regulation directed against the goods of origin or illicit destinationwhich constitutes a tool for the chase of the assets obtained through the organized crime, corruption and other criminal activities.
The bill establishes regulations for the processes of extinction of ownership of illicit assets, provided for in the Constitution of the Dominican Republic. In addition, it defines the competencies and powers of the authorities responsible for its application.

The regulation also punishes human trafficking, including the sexual exploitation of minors (child pornography), in addition, it sanctions the illicit trafficking of human organs, kidnapping, embezzlement and fraud against the State, as well as offenses related to terrorism or its financing.
The domain extinction is an independent and autonomous criminal, civil, administrative arbitration procedure, it will not be an obstacle to initiate a trial in this matter, due to the existence of any other judicial process.
