The Buenos Aires ruling party approved this Thursday the law that will enable the work of the “Linear Park” on a section of Honorio Pueyrredón Avenue, in the Caballito neighborhood, despite the rejection of neighborhood groups that warned of a future collapse of traffic in the area.

The initiative promoted by the management of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta obtained 32 positive votes from Vamos Juntos and the allies of the UCR and Socialism; while 18 legislators from the benches of the Front of All, of the Left and of Federal Consensus demonstrated against; and four abstained from the Freedom Advance space, during the ordinary session.

The sanction will allow an eight-block section of Honorio Pueyrredón Avenue, even sidewalk, between Neuquén and Gaona, to become a “Coexistence Street”, which will have priority for pedestrian traffic over vehicles.

The change in regulations will open the possibility for the Buenos Aires Government to finalize the creation of the “linear park, also called” green corridor “, a work that it planned last year but that was stopped by the local Justice, which made room for a protection of neighbors of Caballito that denounced a breach of the Executive in the previous instances.

Claudio Ferreño, president of the Frente de Todos (FDT) bloc, affirmed that “we are facing a new trap by the City Government and the lie does not stop”, alluding to the slogan of the local administration “The transformation does not stop”

“We are disappointed by the representatives who, obviously, do not represent us at all because we neighbors have thousands of signatures against this work,” Adrián Hernández told Télam after the session, adding that what was approved “is going to bring us a biggest traffic problem.

For the resident of the Caballito neighborhood, “it is yet another maneuver by the Buenos Aires government to carry out this unlawful and illegal work, but we will not stop fighting to be able to have a greener Honorio without harming a lot of residents in the area.”

During the debate on the premises, the legislator of Together for Change Matías López considered that the new designation for Honorio Pueyrredón represents “an instrument to advance in more sustainable uses of public roads, harmonizing the circulation of vehicles with pedestrians.”

He also specified that, once the law is published in the Official Gazette, the new “coexistence street” will have a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour, it will not be possible to park on both sides and will be restricted to the circulation of vehicles that exceed the 4.6 tons.

For his part, Claudio Ferreño, president of the Frente de Todos (FDT) bloc, affirmed that “we are facing a new trap by the City Government and the lies do not stop”, alluding to the slogan of the local administration “The transformation not stop”.

He argued that “in our opinion and that of the majority of neighbors, this supposed ‘street of coexistence’ is only going to bring complications to those who live and work in that area and will have a strong impact on the deterioration of environmental quality and a collapse in the vehicular network”, while evaluating that it will not be a green space, but “a mostly tiled surface”.

Javier Andrade, from the FDT, attributed the Executive’s proposal to the “real estate business model of Mauricio Macri and Larreta because the park is going to be functional to continue advancing with real estate construction given that 50% of the houses on Honorio have less than three levels”.

From the neighborhood group that opposes the park, they pointed out: “we are clearer than ever who is against the common good of the citizenry” and pointed to the 32 legislators who voted in favor, describing them as “sad scribes of the Executive Branch”

Juan Modarelli, also from the FdT, rejected “that they govern with Larreta’s campaign agenda” and stressed that “one more problem is going to be added to Commune 6, a matter of traffic, since it is going to generate chaos in the surrounding streets.” .

The Vice President of the Legislature and Deputy for Together for Change, Emmanuel Ferrario, said that “for us it is a relevant law in terms of consolidating the City’s public space” and added that “now we will be able to continue with the work “.

After the session, meanwhile, from the neighborhood group that opposes the park, they pointed out that “we are clearer than ever who is against the common good of citizens” and pointed to the 32 legislators who voted in favor, describing them as “sad scribes of the Executive Power”.

“We will remember them very well to never again legitimize them with our vote,” they affirmed.
