The Union of Police Officials of Montevideo (Sifpom) demonstrated this Thursday around the Legislative Palace to demand a salary increase and an improvement in working conditions. In this framework, the deputy of the National Party Sebastián Andújar went to the place to negotiate and to be able to reach an agreement.

Finally, and after an hour of negotiation, they agreed with deputies from the ruling party of the Budget and Treasury Commission an additional increase of 2.5% above what the Confederation of State Officials (COFE) COFE had already arranged weeks ago with the Executive power.

“For us it is a victory as a union movement, because we came to look for an extra over and above what COFE had already achieved for public employees and we achieved it,” said Patricia Rodríguez, president of the Montevideo Police Officials Union (Sifpom).

It was agreed, he said, that this extra percentage be “redistributed” according to the lowest charges. “Those who come out winning in the Accountability are the hierarchies, and in reality the one who needs the most is that he is down fighting,” added Rodríguez.

The union leader said that, after this agreement, the most submerged wages will reach about $50,000.
