The administration of Daniel Ortega appointed Jeovani Francisco Álvarez Cubillo as the new secretary general of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG), after the resignation of Marcia Zeledón (daughter of the mayor of Matagalpa, Zadrach Zeledón), who left office after alleged accusations about mismanagement of funds.
The “assumption” of Álvarez Cubillo took place on July 6, 2022, according to the presidential agreement 110-2022 published in The Gazetteofficial newspaper of this Wednesday, July 13.
The now general secretary of the MAG is originally from San Jorge, Rivas; and he previously held the position of departmental delegate of this ministry in Rivas.

The appointment of Jeovani Álvarez Cubillo was made three weeks after the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo ordered a “cleansing” in the MAG that included the dismissal of Edward Centeno as head of the portfolio and the dismissal of drivers and human resources, as revealed by the newspaper La Prensa.
The “clean-up operation” was confirmed on June 28, when the presidential agreements No. 101, 102, and 103 in La Gaceta No. 118, which dismisses Centeno as agricultural minister, appoints Vice Minister Isidro Rivera as the new head and accepts the resignation of Marcia Zeledón as general secretary of the institution, without explaining the reasons.
