Coast Guard intercepts 25 Cuban rafters, including two minors

MIAMI, United States. – Agents of the United States Border Patrol detained 25 Cuban migrants who made landfall on Key Biscayne, in Miami-Dade County, on Tuesday.

“Officers were seen giving migrants water. They all seemed to be in good health. However, a United States Border Patrol spokesperson told Local 10 News that a woman was transported to a local hospital for observation.

According to a police source cited by Local 10 News, the woman is pregnant.

The group is expected to be repatriated to the island, as is regularly the case with Cuban rafters who touch US shores.

The number of Cuban migrants intercepted by US authorities in the last nine months already exceeds 3,000.

According to the agency, the statistics have behaved as follows: 5,396 Cubans intercepted in fiscal year 2016; 1,468 in 2017; 259 in 2018; 313 in 2019; 49 in 2020 and 838 in 2021.

“Once aboard a Coast Guard patrol boat, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical attention,” the Coast Guard has indicated on other occasions.
