Covid-19 cases continue to rise rapidly for the seventh week in a row. The graph with the epidemic curve indicates that in the fifth wave of infections, the number of sick people is already above that registered in the first three peaks of the pandemic, with 150,000 affected in the week from June 26 to July 2 .
In the fourth wave –in the first weeks of 2022–, which until now is the one that has caused the highest number of infections in the nation, the peak reached almost 450 thousand affected in the week of January 16 to 22.
The report from the Ministry of Health (Ssa) indicated that yesterday 5,986 cases of covid and 12 deaths were confirmed, for a cumulative record of 6,265,311 individuals who have had the infection and 326,977 who have lost their lives. because of this.
The agency also indicated that the estimated active cases were 202,154, of which the highest rates per 100,000 inhabitants are located in Mexico City, Baja California Sur, Colima, Sinaloa, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Tabasco, Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi.
The Ssa presented the weekly report on the progress in vaccination. After two weeks, 15 percent of children 5 to 11 years of age have received their first dose, that is, 2 million 368 thousand 991 people. It is the age group that joined the vaccination plan most recently.
In the range that covers people from 12 to 17 years old, coverage is 60 percent with at least one dose reported.
When including all ages, from five years, the national coverage is 77 percent, with 91 million 561 thousand 346 people, who have at least one reported dose.
Regarding booster vaccines, the report indicates that 56 million 638 thousand 339 have been applied, equivalent to an advance of 70 percent.
