The ability and dexterity of the cancheras and pickpockets to steal belongings from the unwary, taking advantage of the concentration of people in public places, carries with it a training, among them is walking long distances with a block between the legs, as he explained it a while ago the director of the National Police, John Dornheim.
Deputy Commissioner Thelma Palma, head of the Police Service for Integration and Citizen Participation of the National Police, provided some recommendations to avoid being victims of well-known pickpockets.
He said that this is a very simple and common theft, where the person steals belongings from the bags and pockets with a dexterity that nobody realizes that he was the victim of the theft.
He added that these people work in a group, one verifies the victim, another commits the theft and the other takes the item. “They interact with the victim and this generally occurs in walkable places, where there are crowds of people, it is very common during rush hours,” she said.
Palma recommended people to carry the bag forward, gentlemen to put the wallet in the internal pockets and not in the back of the pants. Check that the bags are well closed.
