Del Pilar Medina, national deputy for the ANR (Chartism), gave an interview with 5Días TV where she analyzed the situation of the settlements. She pointed out that the social problem has existed for 20, 30 to 40 years and that it has not been solved because they dont want it.
“It is convenient for politicians that there are poor people and needs to subdue them every 4 years. All the settlements, the only thing they want is to live as decent people. In these years we have tried to get ANDE to regularize the part of basic services. People who live in vulnerable places, of course, want to pay their taxes. They are entrepreneurs who do not have access to credit. The only thing they want is a title to carry the daily sustenance. It is a business of politicians who do not want to see their people grow, ”he said.
She affirmed that as president of the Commission for Social Development, Population and Housing, every Tuesday she attends more than 35 groups.
“Our people are scammed, many of them entered through social leaders who charge fees of G. 3 million and then are violently evicted. The people who live in the settlements are compatriots who migrated to the capital in order to find a home, a job. It was creating a de facto occupation. Many with the consent of the owners, she stated.
He argued that more than 300 settlements are in the process of being regularized.
OLDER ADULTS
This Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies will deal with the bill that “Modifies and expands Law 3,728/09 ‘That establishes the right to alimony for older adults in a situation of poverty’ modified by Law 5,483/15”.
The same was presented by the deputy Del Pilar Medina (ANR Chartism) and consists of automatically including adults over 85 years of age within the State pension program (consists of payments of G. 638 thousand monthly).
Del Pilar Medina, national deputy and candidate for the Senate, in an interview for 5Días TV reported that the issue of older adults is one of the priorities of everyone in the Lower House, but in recent times they have received many complaints from older adults who have been removed their pensions.
“The parameters have been modified to consider that an older adult lives in a situation of vulnerability. Many have been deprived of its benefits. Grandparents need those G. 500 thousand to G. 600 thousand. They live off of it,” she stated.
In our country there are around 700,000 adults over 65 years of age. But those who receive pensions do not exceed 210 thousand. During the previous government, of Horacio Cartes, the figure was around 195 thousand.
REQUIREMENTS
The legislator pointed out that the situation worsened with the current government since the older adult does not have to have practically anything to eat, in order to be able to benefit from pensions.
“All the requirements are more rigorous. Imagine an older adult who was receiving his pension for 12 years and now overnight it is cut off because he acquired an air conditioner or a semi-modern bathroom. It does not come to mind that the older adult should be sitting in a latrine to benefit from it,” he commented.
He affirmed that he did not prepare this bill for electoral purposes, taking into account that the next internal elections are on December 18.
“It would be very rude. Citizens know that many had their pensions taken away. There are about 500 thousand adults waiting to collect. At the time of Horacio Cartes, about 50,000 older adults entered a year to collect, now it is only 25,000 enter a year, “he said.
