Lacalle on Recarey’s sentence: “It seems to us ill-advised and unfounded”

Recarey

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, arrived this morning in the department of Paysandú and during his tour of the affected areas, he referred to the sentence of Judge Alejandro Recarey that discontinued vaccination against Covid-19 from the age group of five to 13 years.

“We find the sentence totally unwise and unfounded. Of course, the first thing the Executive Branch did is to abide by it, and that is where the separation of powers is noticeable. Obviously, we immediately began to prepare objections and resources that, due to a scientific health issue, we hope that the Justice will decide as soon as possible because we are talking about the lives of Uruguayans », he indicated at a press conference.

Regarding vaccines, the president assured that “there was always scientific support. We didn’t move forward until there was scientific backing.” Regarding the government’s negotiation for vaccines, the president assured that “there is nothing that Uruguay has negotiated against the compatriots.”

“We gave him all the information we could give him. Constitutionally we are protected by a certain amount of confidentiality », he said about the information that the government gave to the Justice. Yesterday, the government presented an appeal to Judge Alejandro Recarey’s ruling that suspended vaccination for children under 13 years of age.
