Madrid Spain.- Cuban singer Olga Guillot, considered the queen of bolero, died on July 12, 2010 in Miami Beach, United States, at the age of 87.

Born in Santiago de Cuba in 1922, she began her musical career at the age of 14. He studied singing at the Havana Conservatory and began singing tangoinfluenced by Liberty Lamarques Y mercedes simone.

After his debut as a soloist in 1945, numerous performances came in the most popular theaters of the time in Cuba.

For three consecutive years (1954, 1955 and 1956) she won the Radio and Television Daily Critics Award for the best female voice on the Island.

In 1958 he toured Europe, during which he shared the stage with the French singer Édith Piaf.

In 1961, after the Cuban government nationalized his properties, he decided to leave Cuba permanently. He went into exile in Venezuela together with his daughter Olga María, born from her third marriage, with the composer René Touzet. In Venezuela he waited for the procedures to obtain US residency and later traveled to the United States, where he remained until his death.

Among the most popular songs he performed are “The glory is you”, “When I’m with you”, “Last night”, “The song of my songs”, “Black tears”, “With you in the distance”, ” Taste of me” and “Cinnamon skin”.

Throughout his career he obtained 10 Gold, 2 Platinum and 1 Diamond Records, as well as a Latin Grammy for his career in 2007. She worked as an actress in 16 movies and hosted her own television show. The Olga Guillot show.

Because of her talent and influence, she is considered one of the most representative figures of the history of bolero and romantic music of the 20th century.
