According to the June report of the National Migration Service, in the first six months of this year, 48,430 irregular migrants crossed the border with Colombia.

The entity detailed that in the month of June the passage of 15 thousand 633 travelers who were received in the migrant reception centers installed in the province of Darién was reported. This represented 1,739 migrants more than what was reported last May, which was 13,894.

Of the total number of irregular migrants, who have been recorded until June 2022, the SNM specifies that 66% are from South America. It is detailed that of the 48 thousand 430, from Venezuela there are 28 thousand 79. In June the passage of 11 thousand 359 Venezuelans was reported.

In addition, to date there are 7,282 minors who have crossed the border.

The passage of these irregular migrants through Panama continues to increase and, given this scenario, the Isthmian authorities are organizing a new meeting with those of Colombia in order to establish a safer route for these people, whose ultimate goal is to reach the United States.
