Salary: how much income does a family in CABA need to avoid being poor

A family of four living in the city of Buenos Aires needed to receive an income of 4,489.46 in June in order not to be included in poverty.

A family of four living in the city of Buenos Aires needed in June to receive income of at least $57,120.69 to not be considered indigent, $104,489.46 to be considered poor, and $160,849.88 to be considered middle classaccording to data released by the Buenos Aires General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses.

In this way, the expenses of the Basic Food Basket (CBA), which mark the limit of indigence, had an increase of 5.04% last month, which reached 65.18% in the accumulated of the last twelve months , breaking the may marks which had been 4.24% and 61.76%, respectively.

In the case of the Total Basic Basket (CBT), which establishes the poverty limit, the monthly increase was 4.85% (against 4.60% in May) and the year-on-year increase was 60.77% (57.46 % in the previous month), while the Total Basket (CT), which in different proportions delimits the fragile middle sector, the middle class and the wealthy sectors, rose 4.57% in the month (slightly higher than the 4.54% May) and 61.36% in relation to June of last year (58.58% in the previous measurement).

The indicated amounts do not include the payment of housing rent or common expenses, because they are not considered consumption expenses.

The evolution of the baskets in June reflected a greater increase in food above expenses in services and rateswhich are not part of indigence expenses, which is why the most vulnerable sectors had a higher percentage increase than the other social strata.

The situation is more evident in the year-on-year comparison, if one takes into account that the increases in the CBA are about four percentage points higher than those of the baskets that measure poverty and the middle class.

Unlike the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec), which only recognizes the categories of poor and indigent, the Buenos Aires Department has six social strata in its classification.

In June, the resources needed to be included in each category were as follows: in a situation of indigence, up to $57,120.68; non-indigent poverty, from $57,120.69 to $104,489.45; and non-vulnerable poor, from $104,489.46 to $128,679.89.

In the case of Fragile Middle Sector, from $128,679.90 to $160,849.87; middle class, from $160,849.88 to $514,719.59; Y affluent sectors$514,719.60 or more.

The Indec will announce the measurement of the indigence and poverty baskets for May next Thursday, July 21, and the data will take on additional importance once the form is enabled to access the rate segmentation, since those who have incomes equal to or higher than 3.5 times the CBT will be exempt from the benefit of the subsidies.
