CCAD visits projects developed by German Cooperation

CCAD visita proyectos desarrolla Cooperación Alemana

The executive secretary of the Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) of the Central American Integration System (SICA), Jair Urriola Quirozvisited several projects developed in the country by the German Cooperation for Development, GIZ, through its Biodiversity and Business program.

I portray some of the experiences of the Early Warning System in the country, with a view to its future implementation in the Miches municipality, El Seibo province, within the framework of the El Seibo Resiliente project.

He visited several projects of the Biodiversity and Business program in Montecristi, Samaná, El Seibo, Punta Cana, Bayahíbe, Santo Domingo and Monte Plata.

visited the Quinta Pasadena estate, located in Montecristi, which has a Biodiversity Action Plan and is used as a demonstration plot where the correct implementation of soil cover is taught; conservation and protection of pollinators; manufacture of bio-inputs intended to replace agrochemicals and synthetic pesticides; endemic plant nursery; protection and conservation of endemic and native fauna; refuge or connectivity area for migratory birds; and biodynamic vegetable garden.

Similarly, the director of the Biodiversity and Business program in Central America and the Dominican Republic, Svenja Paulinowelcomed the presence of Urriola Quiroz in the Dominican Republic and stated that: “for GIZ it is of vital importance to work hand in hand with the private sector, and in cooperation with key actors from governments, science and civil society, in order to continue contributing to the protection and sustainable use of the biodiversity of terrestrial and marine ecosystems”.

Urriola Quiroz and Paulino met with Milagros De Camps, Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources. In addition, with Juan Salas, executive director of the Civil Defense, with whom they shared experiences and expectations about risk management in the Dominican Republic. Similarly, with Colonel Rubén Frontal, director of the National Integrated Information System (SINI), who showed them some of the experiences of the Early Warning System in the country, with a view to its future implementation in the Miches municipality, El Seibo, within the framework of the El Seibo Resiliente project.
