The Mexican Navy Secretariat reported that this Saturday, at 6:30 a.m., “96 hours have passed since the start of the search for the alleged castaway reported by the United States Coast Guard,” following the attack last Monday when four boats supposedly carrying drugs and sailing in international waters were destroyed by US authorities.
The Navy explained that upon completion of this period of time after having launched the search and rescue operation, supported by international agreements that protect life at sea, “the operation will go to the status of “suspended asset.”
This means that the efforts will continue only through the vessels that navigate in the area, which are informed by the maritime authorities and within the framework of the regular operations of the agency’s units.
In this way, the ocean patrol and the aircraft carrying out the search for the alleged castaway will return to their regular operations, the Navy said.
The vessels were attacked by the US navy 486 kilometers from Acapulco, Guerrero, so the area corresponds to international waters.
Suspected gang member extradited to the US
Likewise, the Attorney General’s Office extradited Juan Carlos Raudales, identified as a member of the Columbus Street Gang, to the United States authorities to be tried by the Superior Court of the state of California for the County of Los Angeles for the crimes of homicide, attempted intentional, deliberate and premeditated homicide, as well as possession of a firearm.
The extradited man is accused of having taken the lives of two people with a firearm, and wounded one more, due to drug trafficking problems with members of rival gangs. He was arrested in November 2024 in Zapopan, Jalisco.
The delivery to US authorities took place at the Mexico City International Airport.
