The death of a 57-year-old man in the community of Quillcaccasa, in Ayacucho, revealed the situation of abandonment in which his 90-year-old mother was left, who had no one to help her face the funeral. The woman’s advanced age and lack of family support made it impossible for her to transport her son’s coffin to the local cemetery.
Faced with this situation, members of the Peruvian National Police from the area’s aid station decided to intervene and provide support. The agents accompanied the funeral procession and carried the coffin for approximately two kilometers, walking the journey to the community cemetery.
The gesture was witnessed by neighbors and quickly spread on social networks, where hundreds of users highlighted the action as a sign of humanity and a vocation for service. For many, the scene reflected a common reality in rural areas: older adults facing loss and loneliness without family or state support.
