9 dead and 16 injured in traffic accident in Morona Santiago

A bus that covered the route between Macas and Taisha crashed. As a result there are nine dead and 16 injured.

At least nine people died and another 16 were injured by the accident of a passenger bus on a highway in the southern Amazon, reported this Sunday, December 19, 2021, the Integrated Security Service ECU-911.

The bus, which covered the route between Macas and Taisha fell down a ravine in the sector of the Colorado River, in the province of Morona Santiago, in southeastern Ecuador.

The ECU-911 reported in a statement that personnel and resources of the Fire Department of several nearby cities, such as Morona, Taisha and Huamboya, they attended the emergency, as well as units of the Ministry of Public Health and the Police.

A preliminary report indicates that so far there have been nine deceased people, as well as 16 injuries (8 men and 8 women, between minors and adults), who were transferred to health homes in the city of Macas, the capital of the Morona Santiago province.

Experts from the Police Traffic Accident Investigation Service (SIAT) began investigations to determine the possible causes of the accident, ECU-911 specified. EFE
