8 men and a woman were arrested in the cities of Barcelona, Guanipa and El Tigre in the state of Anzoátegui, for allegedly selling dollars at a rate higher than that established by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV).
In procedures carried out by the regional police (Polianzoátegui), they arrested Ronal Antonio Hernández, 34 years old, when he was dedicated to the sale of foreign currency in the historic center; and Carlos Javier Revanare, 31 years old, who carried out the illegal exchange in the Fuente Luminosa, both sectors of the city of Barcelona, Simón Bolívar municipality.
According to a report from that security entity, they seized 74 dollars in 20, 10, 5 and 1 bills from Hernández, and he also had 340 bolivars in 20 bills; while Revanare was seized with 30 dollars in 10 bills, and 810 bolivars in 20 and 10 bills, money from illegal currency trading.
In Guanipa, southern part of the Anzoátegui state, municipal police officials arrested two other men whose identity was not provided who were dedicated to selling dollars not adjusted to the official exchange rate.
The procedure was carried out between Unión and Sucre streets in the Central II sector, when they were supervising establishments and peddlers who make economic life in the Municipal Market and its surroundings.
According to police minutes, those arrested, aged 30 and 31, supposedly traded the American currency at 48 bolivars, when established by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV).
The amount of 110 dollars and 2,150 bolivars in low-denomination bills was seized from one of them, while the second detainee had 2,610 bolivars in his possession, presumably from illegal sales.
The last procedure reported by the authorities was carried out in El Tigre, specifically in the El Luchador market, a popular retail center where 5 people were detained, 4 men between the ages of 19 and 39, and a 34-year-old woman.
Municipal police officials were alerted by citizens, who told the detainees to buy the currency at a value below the official rate and sell it at the price indicated by the parallel dollar page.
All procedures were notified to the corresponding prosecutors of the Public Ministry.
