An inspection in the public market of Santiago de Veraguas and its surroundings was carried out this morning by the Directorate of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), to verify that the places where seafood products are sold comply with the regulations. of health.

The director of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance, Roberto Fábrega said that 85% of the merchants and premises complied with the regulations; such as having a health and handler’s card, in addition to having the certificate and operating permit.

He stressed that food transport was verified, to guarantee the cold chain, the organoleptic quality of sea products, to guarantee the food health of the population.

Fábrega indicated that no fines have been applied, and that they made teaching and recommendations to merchants and consumers.

He said that, when buying sea products such as fish, the consumer must verify that their color and smell are fresh, without bulging eyes, with a firm texture and that the gills are red, thus guaranteeing that they are acquiring a product. fresh.
