MIAMI, United States. — A total of 85 Cuban migrants, including 10 children, arrived this weekend in the Florida Keys, US authorities reported.

According to Walter N. Slosar, chief agent of the Border Patrol in the Miami sector, the migrants arrived in different groups and were taken into custody of that entity.

“Over the weekend, 85 Cuban immigrants, including 10 accompanied minors, were taken into the custody of the US Border Patrol after they made landfall on several vessels in the Florida Keys,” the officer said in his account. Twitter.

The United States Coast Guard reported last Saturday on the deportation of 83 Cuban rafters that had been intercepted between Sunday and Monday of last week in waters near South Florida.

The migrants were returned to the Island by the crew of the Coast Guard Richard Etheridge.

Since October 1, Coast Guard crews have intercepted 1,800 Cubans, more than a quarter of the total number of migrants from the island who were detained and deported in the same period of fiscal year 2022, which ended on September 30.

In recent statements, Lieutenant Connor Ives, of the Seventh District of the Coast Guard, reiterated his call to the Cubans not to try to reach the United States illegally.

“Look for safe and legal routes to come to the United States. The Coast Guard, along with our partners, will continue to stop illegal migration at sea and return people to their country of origin or departure,” the officer said.
