83.2% of remittances received in December came from the US; men got more than women

Men received more remittances than women in 2021

Santo Domingo – The central bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) reported today that in December 2021 the Remittances received were of a total of US $ 940.8 million.

This figure exceeded by US $ 68.5 million those registered in December 2020.

The entity explained that 83.2% of the flows in December came from the United States, this being the main country from which Dominicans received remittances in the last month of 2021.

The remittances received were distributed according to the Central Bank, as follows:

  • National District: 33.7%
  • Santiago and Santo Domingo, with 14.1% and 8.9%, respectively.
  • Duarte: 5.4%
  • La Vega: 3.9%
  • Peravia: 3.3%
  • Puerto Plata: 3.0%
  • Rest of North Region: 13.4%
  • East Region: 7.4%
  • Rest of the South Region: 6.8%

83.2% of remittances received in December came from the US; men got more than women

This indicates that more than half (56.8%) of remittances are received in the metropolitan areas of the country.

Analyzing the flows of December 2021 according to the gender of the person who receives it, men captured 51.3% and women 48.7% of the remittances received through formal channels.
