82% of independent workers in Peru are women, according to a study

82% of all independent entrepreneurs are made up of women and 18% of men, between 18 and 55 years of age, according to the latest report from the (Capevedi).

In this regard, Rafael Avendaño, executive director for LATAM of Jeunesse, a company dedicated to the distribution of beauty and wellness products, stated that the development of this sector of entrepreneurship occurred in a pandemic where thousands of Peruvians were left without a permanent job, Therefore, in search of resources for their families, they found in this type of business an opportunity to generate income.

“Jeunesse grew 60% in Peru (in 2020) due to different factors, but I think the most important was that many were left without a permanent job, so they saw in our company the opportunity to develop as independent entrepreneurs. We did not stop during the pandemic, we maintained our full distribution, therefore, our distributors were not affected, they continued looking for business opportunities “he stated.

He recalled that World Entrepreneurship Day was celebrated on April 16, a date on which the impetus and courage of microentrepreneurs who, despite adversity, come out ahead by reinventing themselves and adapting to the situation stand out and continue to be motivated.

In this sense, Capevedi said that there are around 635,000 independent entrepreneurs dedicated to the direct sale of beauty, nutritional, and wellness products, among others.

On the other hand, Avendaño highlighted that in terms of network marketing, Peru is the third most profitable Spanish-speaking country behind Mexico and Colombia.

He added that this type of business is based on the distributor building a network under his leadership. “Our line of business is not only looking for distributors to stock up on products to sell. We make it easy for them to do their part: find the business, and we supply the products”he explained.

Jeunesse is a young company, compared to other companies in similar fields, and its value proposition has managed to position itself in the world precisely because it is very attractive to our distributors. We are in more than 145 countries, of which 13 are from Latin America. Peru represents a very important market for us”, said.
