In some 2,420 schools in the country, maintenance work has been completed, as well as repairs in the areas of electricity, plumbing, painting, welding and access for people with disabilities.
This is 78% of the 3,102 schools in the country, according to a report presented yesterday by authorities from the Ministry of Education (Meduca).
Meanwhile, there are another 181 educational centers in which minor improvement works are being carried out.
In addition, 52 “ranch schools” are being replaced by buildings (in some cases classrooms and in others small schools), there are 63 schools under construction and/or expansion, another 8 are in the process of being transferred and endorsing the contract and 6 more, in resolution of legal matters.
The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, reported that 954,233 students will return to the classroom after two years of absence due to Covid-19. Of that figure, 840 thousand 497 belong to official schools and 113 thousand 736 are from private centers.
Classes start this Monday, March 7, but students will enter in a staggered manner. The first week the primary students will do it, and on March 14, the middle and high school students.
As part of a general balance on the preparations for the start of the 2022 school year, which will be face-to-face, the Meduca authorities stressed that at least 48,000 teachers are prepared, as of February 21, to start.
