The coordinator of the Sanitation Program of Panama, Eng. Rafael Díaz, explained in 21 years of the sanitation program that began in 2001, but it was in 2006, that the works began, important works have been covered in Panama and San Miguelito .
“So far, in the works that we have been carrying out, we have taken about 75% to 78% of attention to sewage in Panama and San Miguelito,” he reported.
He added that the North Panama area has had exponential growth, close to half a million inhabitants, and according to the Master Plan that has been developed, the construction of a new treatment plant will be carried out, since the topography and collection capacity would compromise the operation of the plant in Juan Díaz.
Díaz pointed out that the bidding process and the referendum process, Panama Oeste, began in 2018, with works that began as the Perico Cáceres and Burunga Este project, giving flow to the treatment plant in the area. “Later, we will be requesting financing for Burunga Northeast and Burunga Center and with all that we will collect wastewater from the West area,” said Díaz.
In the same sense, in La Chorrera, the wastewater plant is being tendered, in the Caimito area, and the expansion projects, in 4 planes, serving all these sectors, wastewater from the rivers and septic tank.
He added that there will also be a process of acculturation and education for citizens, about the works, the sewage process and the elimination of solid waste (oils and fats).
For the West Panama projects, investments are contemplated for a sum close to one billion dollars, for the next few years.
