73-year-old woman who died from COVID-19, in Piura, suffered from three diseases

The first death as a result of COVID-19 in the region She was an elderly woman and had comorbidities, according to the statement from the Luciano Castillo Colonna Health Sub-Region.

This was reported by the Piura Public Health specialist, Julio Barrena Dioses, who explained that the statement from the Luciano Castillo Colonna Health Subregion indicates that the first death from the coronavirus in Piura was a 73-year-old patient from the hamlet of San Vicente de Piedra Rodada, Bellavista district (Sullana province), who had high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and kidney failure and only had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Sub Region reported that, in 2024, 11 deaths were recorded, which reflects a downward trend in mortality due to the effectiveness of vaccination, prevention measures and medical care.

Despite the decrease in serious cases, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reiterated that the virus has become endemic, remaining in the population like other respiratory viruses.

The population was recommended to complete the vaccination schedule recommended by the Minsa.
