With tools in hand, a group of 70 police firefighters from the department of Cochabamba are transferred to Santa Cruz to support the firefighting efforts. The ceremony prior to the transfer took place on the runway of the Air Force headquarters at Jorge Wilsterman Airport, attended by President Lucho Arce.
In addition to the President of Bolivia, the following people participated in the event: the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, and the Vice Minister of Internal Affairs and Police, Jhonny Aguilera, among other authorities.
There are 70 troops deployed to the department of Santa Cruz; This is the second group of police officers transferred to the fire zones in the eastern region.
Of the 70 police firefighters, 55 are from Cochabamba and 15 from the department of Oruro, who will join forces in the tasks.
“The population must become fully aware, There is no way to combat this without awareness. (…) Today we have to send this number of contingent, a few days ago we sent a significant amount from La Paz and today we do it from Cochabamba,” said the President.
He indicated that the fight against the fires not only requires the support of Bolivians, but also urgently requires international cooperation. “Part of the smoke comes from Brazil and other regions. The issue of the fires It generates concern throughout the region, which is why We need cooperation and solidarity of countries to confront this,” he said.
Arce said that instructions were given to hire planes to carry water and unload it in the fire zones, a strategy that they believe will help the work that firefighters will do on the ground.
