The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) reported yesterday that it expelled seven students who participated in the illegal occupation of facilities located at Ciudad Universitaria, from May 22 to July 25 of this year.
He revealed that the now former students caused serious damage to university property, such as vandalism and destruction of buildings and furniture, as well as the theft of numerous documents.
UNAM indicated that those expelled – whose identity is protected so as not to affect legal proceedings – were assigned to the faculties of Philosophy and Letters (2); Political and Social Sciences (2); Iztacala Higher Studies; Aragón Higher Studies, as well as the National School of Social Work. All of them have been duly notified by the university’s legal offices, and the files, with the existing evidence, were transferred to the University Court for the discharge of disciplinary procedures in accordance with university legislation.
He explained that on May 22, the youths violently entered the General Office of the College of Sciences and Humanities, illegally occupying those offices. During the two months they remained there, they took advantage of the nights to take over adjacent spaces, such as the General Budget Office and the headquarters of the area academic councils.
