The Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) of the Peruvian Navy reported that it has intensified ocean surveillance after an earthquake magnitude 7.6 Mw recorded this Monday in the northeastern part of Japan.
The seismic event occurred at 09:15:11 (Peruvian time) and was reported by United States Geological Survey (USGS)According to preliminary data, the epicenter was located 73 km east-northeast of Misawawith a depth of 53.06 km.
Reinforced monitoring despite absence of tsunami warning
The DHN indicated that, although the earthquake does not generate a tsunami condition for the Peruvian coast at the moment, a permanent monitoring because it is a high magnitude seismic event in the Pacific basin.
Monitoring stations and ocean sensors remain under active observation to detect any anomalous variations in sea level.
Japan remains under evaluation for high seismic activity
This 7.6 Mw earthquake occurs in a context of strong seismic activity in northern Japan, within the Pacific Ring of Firea region with high release of tectonic energy.
The Peruvian authorities specified that they will continue to issue updates through their official channels as new international reports are received.
