7.4 degree earthquake hits the Kamchatka Peninsula

An earthquake of 7.4 degrees hit the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the East of Russia on Saturday, the United States Geological Service (USGS) reported.

The earthquake occurred 111 kilometers east of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk, of Kamchatka, the administrative center of the homonym region, to a depth of 39.5 kilometers.

The Pacific tsunamis alert (PTWC). He had informed possible “dangerous” waves along the coasts within 300 kilometers of the earthquake epicenter.

But later, the center said: the “threat of Tsunami has already passed.”

Last July, one of the strongest earthquakes ever registered occurred in front of the Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering tsunamis up to four meters high throughout the Pacific and evacuations from Hawaii to Japan.

The earthquake 8.8 was the largest since 2011, when one of 9.1 against Japan caused a tsunami that killed more than 15 thousand people.

This led to the Japan authorities to order almost two million people to go to higher land. Tsunami warnings were also issued throughout the region, before being canceled or lowered.
