63 people die for malnutrition in a week in Darfur, Sudan; mostly children and women

At least 63 people died of malnutrition in a week In the Estraher, a city besieged in western Sudan at warA head of the Ministry of Health told AFP on Sunday.

“Sixty -three people died of malnutrition since August 3 (…), most are children and women,” said that manager who asked for anonymity.

He said that this balance only concerns people who could reach a hospital.

The Phase, capital of Norte Darfur, has been besieged for more than a year by the paramilitaries of the Fast Support Forces (FSR), at war against the Army since April 2023.

The city is the second regional capital of Darfur still Controlled by the Army.

Nearly 40% of children under five years in the Estran suffer from acute malnutrition, 11% severely, according to the World Food Program (PAM).

Already in its third year, the conflict caused tens of thousands of deaddisplaced millions and caused what the UN describes as “worse humanitarian crisis in the world.”
