A total of 62 new defenders were sworn in and will assume their duties from this Wednesday, with the aim of strengthening the orientation, representation and free legal assistance to popular power, to guarantee due process of the defendants.
The information was released by the Public Defender’s Office, through a press release, in which it indicates that the Public Defender, Daniel Ramirez Herrerainformed that the new sworn defenders will assume from this Wednesday the functions in the different competencies offered free of charge by this body that guarantees access to justice.
The defenders «will assume their duties with patriotic commitment and adherence to the postulates of the Magna Carta in different states of the country, to thus guarantee effective judicial protection and due process of the defendants, “he said.
The new staff of public defenders will work in the agrarian and fishing jurisdiction; indigenous; administrative litigation; ordinary criminal; criminal responsibility of the adolescent; special crime of violence against women and protection of children and adolescents, refers the press release.
They trust most sacred right: freedom
Likewise, the defender Daniel Ramírez stressed that from this moment on, “those deprived of liberty trust them with the most sacred right, which is their freedom, that is why I ask them to work with responsibility and dedication; do not abandon the most vulnerable.”
In this sense, he recalled that each defendant has the right to know the procedural status of his case.
Expand powers of defenders
The Public Defender, Daniel Ramírez Herrera, highlighted in the swearing-in act that, in order to strengthen the actions of the defenders, expanded their powers.
Regarding the protection of children and adolescents, “we expanded the competence of the public defenders who act in the matter, through resolution No. 532-2022 published in the Official Gazette No. 42,437 dated 10/ 08/2022».
In the event that the assisted or assisted, in prison and deprived of liberty, are transferred to detention centers outside the jurisdiction of the natural court, the defender Ramírez emphasized that “the defenders must provide attention to the accused in the review of files» said the Public Defender.

As extension delegates for the Metropolitan Area of Caracas assumes Carlos Carrero González; Iris Piñango for La Guaira; José Ortega Roa for Portuguese; Mariangela Ortiz Briceño for Guasdualito; and Keyla Eyesenia Peña for Carora.
