On December 31, 6.3 million voting cards will expire. However, authorities from the Federal Registry of Voters of the National Electoral Institute (INE) reported that citizens responded favorably to this year’s update campaign.
The above, he said, is a fundamental operation to maintain the growth of the registry, currently of nearly 100 million citizens, with personal and biometric data, which is the most complete in the country and the axis of any election, including the next one for judges, magistrates and ministers, scheduled for next year, according to the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation. This registry is always dynamic; for example, from January to August, 995,768 registrations were removed, although the majority (950,000) were due to replacement and only 45,912 due to removal due to death, suspension of political rights or duplication.
Likewise, applications from non-binary people are increasing and trans. This year, the INE has delivered 181 credentials to people who said they did not identify with the male or female gender, so just like the 47 cards delivered to trans, an X is placed on their credential, in the gender area.
In addition to settling circumstances such as extraordinary elections or the effects of natural phenomena, from January to August 4,618,505 procedures were reported, one third for replacement – compared to loss or theft – and a high percentage of credential delivery remains, since there are those who process it and do not return for it.
The INE has 844 citizen service modules, which together have 2,830 work stations in fixed, semi-fixed and itinerant locations, which are attended by 5,808 workers.
Meanwhile, during a visit to Sonora, the president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, said that public institutions must be able to adapt to changes. She pointed out that solid and transparent bodies are essential for the proper functioning of democracy.
He also stressed that active and responsible citizenship is essential for the development of a democratic and just society.
