Santo Domingo. – Public Health reported this Wednesday the fifth positive case of monkeypox virus (MXV) in the country.
In a press release, Public health indicates that it is a 39-year-old Dominican, resident in Santo Domingo, who is in isolation and stable receiving care and pertinent treatment by the specialists of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ramón de Lara.
The authorities reported that this patient began to feel general symptoms, such as headache, fever, joint pain and vesicular lesions on the face and other parts of the body for seven days, but he is already asymptomatic and only with skin conditions. .
Dr. Eladio Pérez, Deputy Minister of Collective Health, stated that there are no suspicious persons linked to this new case, since the patient was presumably infected in border areas.
“We continue with an arduous monitoring through the National Epidemiological Surveillance System that is carried out in the Dr. Defilló National Reference Laboratory of this Ministry, to detect any virus present in the country in time and thus be able to keep the population informed,” he pointed out.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS) is in direct contact with the World Health Organization (WHO/PAHO), to process the acquisition of vaccines against monkeypox or monkeypox
He pointed out “we are in direct contact with the (WHO/PAHO) to see the protocol for the treatment of monkeypox, for which we have to wait, since so far we have a good response,” he said.
Meanwhile, the medical colonel Joel Ureña, infectologist at the Ramón de Lara Hospital, stated that the new patient admitted to this health center, as well as the 21-year-old, who has been in isolation since the 4th of this month, have responded satisfactorily to treatment.

“The former patient is in very good health, without symptoms or skin lesions, but will continue in isolation to complete the treatment as asymptomatic and the corresponding days and then discharge him if there is no change.”
