The Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) published a report updated to the second quarter of 2024 on the infrastructure and coverage of mobile services in Colombia. The document revealed that The country has 29,803 antenna sites distributed throughout the national territory, with 4G technology predominating, which is present in 94% of the sites.
The deployment of 5G technology, which began in February 2024, registers 1,167 active stations in 22 cities. The operator Claro leads the expansion with 981 sites, representing 84% of the total, while Tigo and Movistar operate 93 sites each. Wom, for its part, has not yet started installing this technology.

Regarding the distribution of sites by operator, Claro owns 34% (10,160) of the antennas, followed by Tigo (25%) and Movistar (24%), while Wom controls 17%. It should be noted that Wom only operates with 3G and 4G, with no history of 2G or 5G deployment.

Regarding 5G coverage, the percentages are still limited: Claro reaches 4.1%, while Tigo and Movistar register only 1.1% each. The central region of the country has the greatest coverage, while the southern region continues to face connectivity challenges.
The analysis highlights the need to increase investment in 5G infrastructure and modernize existing networks to meet the growing demand for connectivity throughout the country.
