56 bodies found in clandestine graves in northern Mexico

A total of 56 bodies have been exhumed in the last four days, which were in eight clandestine graves located on a property in the municipality of Casas Grandes, in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, authorities from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) reported this Saturday.

According to a statement, after the work of the interdisciplinary team of the FGE, they found the bones in a property known as ‘El Willy’, located in the vicinity of the Ejido Ignacio Zaragoza, municipality of Casas Grandes.

Only on Friday, he specified, “eight clandestine graves were located, in which two complete corpses were found, one incomplete, 10 complete bones and five incomplete.”

Furthermore, he added, during the operation led by the Local Search Commission, 38 graves were located, which were processed with the intervention of criminology experts, forensic anthropologists, agents of the Public Ministry and elements of the State Investigation Agency.

The work, which had the support of the National Guard and the Mexican Army, began on Tuesday, January 21, where according to the information provided by the Prosecutor’s Office, 8 bones, 2 bodies, a skull, 8 .223 caliber shell casings and a blue cloth garment were found.

While on Wednesday the 22nd, 10 graves were processed where a total of 10 bodies were found, 6 bones, 1 .223 caliber percussion cartridge, an incomplete skeleton and 25 fragments of various bone remains.

The human remains and evidence were packaged and transferred to the Forensic Sciences laboratories of the Directorate of Expert Services in Ciudad Juárez “for anthropological medical studies to determine the causes and time of death, as well as the identities of the victims,” ​​the organization emphasized. Prosecutor’s Office.

According to a report by the international organization Human Rights Watch (HRW), In Mexico there are almost 5,700 clandestine graves that activists and authorities have discovered, in addition to the fact that around 53,000 human remains were stored, waiting to be identified by the end of 2022.

These findings illustrate the crisis of disappearances in Mexicowith more than 120,000 missing people throughout the country, according to data from the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO).
