MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban singer-songwriter Willy Chirino will celebrate this Saturday the 50 years of his artistic career with a great concert at the James L. Knight Center theater in the city of Miami.
Fully in the promotion of his most recent album I keep goinglaunched in 2022, the popular salsa singer will be accompanied by various guests.
“I want you to accompany me in this important event for my career. See you there!” Chirino wrote in social networks about the concert “50 Years of Music”, which will start at eight o’clock at night.
Willy Chirino debuted in 1974 with the album One Man Alone. Since then he has released more than twenty record productions. However, his career began earlier as part of different bands and orchestras. The 50th anniversary of his career dates back to 1972, when he began to use his name when creating music.
Born in Consolación del Sur (Pinar del Río) on April 5, 1975, Willy Chirino has made a successful career as a singer-songwriter, musician and music producer in the United States, where he went into exile with his family when he was just 14 years old.
He is considered one of the creators of the so-called Miami Sound —a special fusion of Cuban music, rock, jazz, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms— and has composed songs such as Our day (It’s coming) —which became one of the hymns of exile in Miami— and The Rider.
Within the framework of his 50-year career, Willy Chirino has received numerous tributes in recent months.
On October 28, it was unveiled a mural with his image on Calle Ocho in Little Havana. The work, measuring 18 by 16.5 meters, was commissioned by the Miami Mayor’s Office to the Chilean artist Alexandra Seda.
On December 15, the city of West New York, New Jersey, paid tribute to him by naming a street after him, Willy Chirino Way at the corner of 54th Street and East Boulevard.
Also on view from January 27 to September 10, 2023 is a retrospective exhibition of his career at the History Miami Museum that will be open to the public from January 27 to September 10.
