50 million dollars more for Guajimía;  The second phase of the work began

The Government began the second stage of sanitation of the Guajimía ravine, in Santo Domingo Oeste (SDO), where it plans to invest US$50 million in works that will include 348 apartments and the intervention of another 40 ravines in different parts of the country.

In the new stage, we will proceed to complete the sanitation of 5.4 kilometers from the upper part of the Guajimía basin and will cover the ravines of Buenos Aires, El Indio, La Ureña, Villa Aura and Las Caobas.

The work will be carried out in three stages: the first includes an environmental impact study that was carried out last year, then the construction of 384 apartments where the families living in the surroundings of the ravine will be relocated.

Also the expansion of the drinking water and sewage networks in the missing areas of the project; the construction of a wastewater treatment plant and an underwater outfall or conduit to pump the wastewater and the discharge line from the treatment plant. The ravine has a length of 13.58 kilometers and with its tributaries it reaches 18.16 kilometers.

President Louis Abinader He said that with the beginning of the works it will be possible to eliminate the constant focus of pollution that threatens the health of the inhabitants of these neighborhoods.

“We have paid attention to the claims of dozens of families who live on the banks of the glen of Guajimia and we will begin today the second stage of the works of sanitation pluvial and sanitary of this canyon and its main tributaries, with which we are going to put an end to a situation of many years of abandonment, “said the president.

The caasd in charge of work

The work is in charge of Felipe Suberví, general director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (caasd), who highlighted that it is the first time in the country that more than 40 ravines have been intervened, and the same number of kilometers.

The official stated that the installation of 11 kilometers of home health connection networks and the construction of recreation areas for the recreation of the inhabitants of the surrounding communities will also begin.

Investment from previous governments

By June 2007, former President Leonel Fernández began the first stage of sanitation of the glen of Guajimia With the delivery of 208 apartments to beneficiaries of the families that lived in the surroundings, the work had a cost of more than RD$118.0 million. A year later, the second stage of the project was delivered, consisting of 216 more apartments at a cost of RD$168,901,234 million. The work was built at that time by the Canadian company Dessau Soprin, within the project of sanitation which began at the end of 2006. By April 2010, 440 new apartments were delivered to evictees from Guajimía, this time the investment was RD$316 million.

A work from 2007

During the governments of former President Leonel Fernández, four housing projects were built, known as Guajimía I, II, III and IV. These apartments were delivered since 2007, they were part of the first stage of the project to clean up and rescue the canyon carried out by the former president.
