“The works (in Chiapas) are on pause due to the lack of definition of the source of financing for the remaining works due to the restructuring that the health sector is carrying out within it,” reports the National Program report of Reconstruction.
In total, the Ministry of Health identified 262 medical establishments damaged by the earthquakes of September 2017 and February 2018. Of this universe, in 129 units (49%) the reconstruction had already been completed between 2019 and 2020; 19 (7%) were in process, and 114 (44%) were still pending rehabilitation.
According to the report, in verification processes it was detected that some medical units were rehabilitated with money from different funds, while other works were canceled or suspended, so in 2021 they were deducted from the National Reconstruction Program.
Among the medical units with pending works are the “Ignacio Bastida” Health Clinic, located in Yautepec, Morelos; the “Cruz del Sur” Psychiatric Hospital, located in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, and the “La Gloria” Health Center, in Arriaga, Chiapas.
Also, the “Colonia San Miguelito” Health Center, in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, and the “Bioassay Unit” laboratory, in Huaquechula, Puebla. In Mexico City there is a lack of rehabilitation works in the Government Tower of the General Hospital of Mexico.
