4G works are close to 70% completion at the end of the first quarter

At the end of the first quarter of the year, the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI) revealed that the entire highway concession program of fourth generation 4G with cut-off as of March 31, 2022 reaches an execution of 64.8%.

(Read: From this Wednesday the counterflow begins on Las Américas Avenue).

Of the 29 works, the CCI highlights the initiatives that make up the program, the Girardot-Honda-Puerto Salgar roads; Iron Gate- Cruz del Viso-Palmar de Varela; the Pacific Connection Highway 2 Bolombolo-La Pintada-Primavera; Cartagena-Barranquilla (Circunvalar de la Prosperidad) and Vías del Nus Bello-Alto de Dolores, all of them with an execution rate of 100%.

Also five ways plus 4G, already exceed 90% execution. These are the Pasto-Rumichaca highways; Chirajara-Founders; Motorways to the Sea1 Medellín – Cañasgordas; the Transversal del Sisga and the Conexión Pacífico 3 highway.

(What’s more: Guardianship filed to curb ‘fracking’ license in Puerto Wilches).

This evidences the good progress that has been showing what is undoubtedly the most ambitious road program in which the country has embarked in its history. But in addition to the encouraging rates that its execution already shows, the unwavering commitment of the concessions and the credibility that the financial sector has deposited in the program is also evident.”, said Juan Martín Caicedo, president of the Chamber of Infrastructure.

The union leader also took advantage of the situation to applaud the recent Statements by President Iván Duque where he made a vehement defense of the concessions model.

President Duque pointed out that “road concessions, with private participation, are what have allowed us to accelerate the road transformation of the country’s departments. If we continued under the public works model, like the one we had for 80 years, the execution of the works would continue to take 50 years”.

For Caicedo, the president’s words constitute a just recognition of the work of the concessions of the country and, in addition, they are in agreement with the conclusions of the multilateral bank, which has stated that the Colombian concession model, due to its efficient structuring, is worth replicating in Latin America.

(What’s more: From 2025, Colombia would have a deficit in energy supply).

Finally, the ICC spokesperson also highlighted the good progress of the Bicentennial concessions (5G).

This was demonstrated after the recent signing of the Accesos Norte 2 contract and the start of the ALO Sur project, two strategic works for the mobility of the country’s capital and which are part of the so-called Bicentennial concessions.Caicedo said.
