49% of Uruguayans disagree with the pension reform, according to Cifra

the pollster Figure released the results of a survey on “attitude” toward the pension reform project. The study shows that the 49% of Uruguayans would disagree with the proposal while 30% support it and 21% do not have an opinion defined in this regard.

The percentage of the population in disagreement is accentuated in the age groups ranging from 30 to 44 years and from 45 to 59. According to the document, in these population ranges there is a nonconformity of the 55% and 51% respectively.

Something similar occurs when classifying respondents by income. In the income sectors medium low and medium high the refusals before the pension reform amount to 52% and 48% for each case. In the low-income sector, the disapproval stands at 46%.

In contrast, the 44% of high-income respondents approve of the reform. As for the over 60 years, approval amounts to 38%.

In turn, the highest percentage of ignorance or lack of opinion regarding the subject was concentrated in the low-income sector (28%) and those under 29 years of age (27%).

Cifra surveyed 705 people from all over the country through telephone calls between August 4 and 14, 2022. The question asked was: “The government is presenting a project to reform the pension system. From what you have heard, do you agree or disagree with the project?”
