52% of Uruguayans show interest in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, compared to 47% not interested. Despite the fact that almost half of the population does not follow the World Cup with much interest, 85% have an opinion about the level of the Uruguayan team.
Interest in the World Cup is closely associated with the evaluation that each one makes of the level of the Uruguayan team, according to a new Cifra survey presented this Friday in Telemundo (channel 12). Almost half (47%) consider that their current level is better than that of 10 years ago, another 13% that it is the same and a quarter believe that it is worse (of which 2% evaluate it as “much worse”).
Those who live in the interior see more improvements than those in Montevideo, men than women, the youngest and people without tertiary education.
Among those very interested in the World Cup, two thirds think that the current Uruguayan team has a better level than 10 years ago; among those “quite interested” in the championship, 55% think that Uruguay is better. At the other extreme, among those who have no interest in the World Cup, there is a large group that has no opinion on the level of the team either, but among those who do, only 22% consider that it is better and 29% that it is worse.
the survey
The survey was carried out on 810 people on landlines and cell phones throughout the country. It was between October 20 and 31, 2022.
The maximum expected margin of error for 95% confidence is approximately 3.5 percentage points plus or minus (+/- 3.5).
The text of the questions asked to those surveyed was as follows: “Are you interested in the World Cup that will be played in Qatar in a few weeks?”, with answers A Lot/ Quite a bit/ Little/ Not at all. Also: “Do you think that the Uruguayan team has a better or worse level today than 10 years ago?”, with answers Much better/ Better/ The same/ Worse/ Much worse.
The consultant clarifies that the survey is multi-client, and financed by public and private companies, political parties, state agencies and international organizations.
